NEST(-ING)

WORK-ART PERFORMANCES (2020)

In the winter of 2019, I began to prepare for a lecture performance which included live poetry, collaborative staging and curation. I came to Cruces Creatives with a great amount of material and asked the audience to help me to put it up as we collectively constructed a nest made of all the materials I could muster from my studio.

As a meditation on family, NEST(-ING) explored the intimate act of opening up one’s practice to their community as an opportunity to engage in pedagogy as well as civics. Fundamentally, it was an allegory for coming out and for the act of asking my community to hold their arms out so that I could pour myself out in all my unsorted messiness
